North Leverton Windmill has stood in its place for over 200 years, always milling wheat and feed for the local farmers over that time and now is looked after and safe guarded by the North Leverton Windmill Trust for all the years to come, but only for as long as people show an interest and visit the Windmill and donate to the cause, for which we are always grateful.
In addition to the fundraising Family Fun Weekend that is usually held every year at the start of September, there was an idea to create another event to not only bring in visitors to the Windmill during the 'fresher' period of the year where naturally, footfall is lower, but also provide an running event for people in the surrounding villages who may have wanted to try an event but had reservations about taking part, or where travel was a sticking point. The idea of Scrimshire's Scramble was born, named after the lane beside the Windmill. Who Scrimshire was though, we do not know. Perhaps a keen jogger between harvests in the yesteryear?
The Trust agreed it would be idea worthy of thought and discussion, and ultimately it was given the go ahead. There we were then, busy planning for the inaugural Scramble. The real success however was not only the folk participating, or the awesome volunteers giving their time up to make it happen, but for you to enjoy yourself, and its return for 2026!
