It is a 10k (well 10.5k...) multi-terrain trail run with the start just behind North Leverton Windmill and finishing at the Windmill. It is ran entirely off road apart from a stretch of tarmac road the serves a farmstead. There will be no issue with oncoming traffic along the route as it 99% utilises PROW's closed to motor vehicles.
The route will be emailed out in good time as part of the pre-race information pack, and will also be available
We wanted this to be an accessible event for the folk of the surrounding villages, primarily. We want folk who may be unsure about a race setting to come along and try without the pressure of PB talk, what shoes you wear or whatever else. Come and enjoy the countryside, the support and a visit to the Windmill.
Give the hi-vis volunteers a nod as you pass, without them Scrimshire's Scramble would not be taking part.
North Leverton is not really built for en-masse parking or much traffic, so we would advise against parking on the main road through the village. There are several residential streets that peel off Main Street where space may be found, so please park courteously and considerately. Mill Lane cannot have parking for participants due to requirements of the medical risk assessment.
There are no prizes for being the speediest. We encourage all Scramblers to tackle it their own way. All finishers will receive a custom-designed promotional medal, very local honey and a 500g back of freshly milled white flour straight off the Windmill's mill-stones.
As this is our first foray into holding and promoting a race, we will be using a simple but effective app created by STS Timing Systems that basically runs on a tablet and your race number is tapped off as you cross the finish line, so no bibs with timing chips here. We also have a large timing clock for the finish. The result will be posted on our Facebook page as soon we can (probably, hopefully Sunday evening).
The minimum age for taking part in the 10k run is 16 years old, this is inline with RULE 141 S 5 UKA – TRAIL RUNNING. We welcome folk of all abilities to sign up if you feel that you are of an ability to attempt the route and conditions mentioned on these pages.
Should anyone have any concerns and suitability of the Scramble, please do email info@scrimshiresscramble.co.uk and we'll do our very best to answer any thoughts.
We have an ethos for this event to be as kind to our surroundings as possible. Afterall it is beautiful so lets keep it this way. Whilst not everything can be recycled or plastics avoided, we will be aiming to...
Not to use plastic water bottles
Use recyclable cups for water at the finish.
Offer locally sourced produce for the finishers 'swag bag'
Use a sustainable medal material
Unfortunately not. Whilst some events such as parkrun do allow you to take part with your pooch, as part of our risk assessment and safe guarding of participants (some who may not be comfortable around pooches) we felt it better to make this a no.
